CHENNAI: A 29-year-old man of Thirumulaivoyal was arrested by the police on Saturday and booked on charges of raping a minor girl after promising to marry her.

According to police, Suresh alias Narayanan (29) of Andhra Pradesh got a job in a packing company in Ambattur. He took a house for rent in Thirumulaivoyal and settled down with his wife and two kids.

A few months ago, he came in contact with Selvi and her 16-year-old daughter who worked in his company. He started interacting with the duo, describing himself as a bachelor. He gradually grew close to the girl.

The girl too fell for his charms in due course. Eventually, Suresh said that he would like to marry her and the two eloped to Andhra Pradesh. Selvi grew anxious as her daughter did not return home and finally lodged a police complaint. A case of kidnap was registered.

Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh Suresh confessed to the girl about his past and said that he was already married and that before tying the nuptial knot, too, he had an affair. The girl then managed to escape to Chennai.

Upon reaching her house on February 18, she informed her parents about what had happened. A police complaint was filed and the kidnap case was changed into a case of rape.
